Hackers from the BO Team, together with the GUR, attacked the Russian company JSC MTT, which is a subsidiary of PJSC MTS

On the night of April 26-27, 2024, the Ukrainian hacker group BO Team together with the Main Intelligence Directorate launched a coordinated cyberattack on the Russian telecommunications company JSC MTT, a subsidiary of one of the largest telecommunications operators, PJSC MTS.

According to Infolight.UA, Ukrainian cyber specialists were able to penetrate the company’s network equipment before the attack began. On the night of April 26-27, they initiated the destruction of software and configuration files in all network equipment.

Following the cyberattack, many regions of Russia were left without MTT services. In particular, the company’s operations have been disrupted in Moscow, Samara, St. Petersburg, Khabarovsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Rostov-on-Don, Volga, Ufa and Kaliningrad. Restoring the equipment will require significant effort and time due to the need to physically connect to each device.

MTT JSC, known as Interregional Transit Telecom, serves millions of private and thousands of corporate customers, is one of the top 10 largest telecommunications companies in Russia and provides integrated mobile and platform solutions.
