According to the investigation, GRU officers resorted to sabotage to disrupt the supply of weapons and ammunition to Syria and Ukraine.

The goal was to prevent the delivery of weapons and ammunition to the areas of the Russian army’s combat operations, primarily to Syria and Ukraine. This was stated by the head of the National Center for Combating Organized Crime of the Czech Police, Jiri Mazanek.

The police report does not mention the names of the GRU officers, but investigators have previously named Anatoly Chepiga and Alexander Mishkin. The UK believes they were involved in the poisoning of former Soviet spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter in Salisbury in 2018.

The first explosion occurred on the morning of October 16, 2014, at warehouse 16. It destroyed 58 tons of ammunition. Two security guards were killed. The second explosion occurred on December 3 at another warehouse. Almost 13 tons of artillery shells and mines were stored there, as well as thousands of machine guns.
