Kuleba explains why Russia is not invited to the peace summit

After the June Peace Summit in Switzerland, negotiations with Russia may begin. The goal of the June Global Peace Summit is to bring together countries that share the same principles. Therefore, the event does not involve Russia. But communication with Russia may still take place later.

The Ukrainian Foreign Minister emphasized this in an interview with Foreign Policy.

Until then, there is no point in talking to Russia, says Dmytro Kuleba.

He noted that Ukraine knows that there are only two ways to bring Russia to a situation where it will act in good faith. The first, he said, is success on the battlefield, and the second is the creation of a coalition of countries that support Zelenskyy’s peace formula. This means the withdrawal of Russian troops at the 1991 border.

The conference is scheduled for June 15-16 and will be held at the Burgenstock resort near Lucerne, according to the website of the President of Ukraine.

“The summit will be a platform for dialogue on ways to achieve a comprehensive, just and lasting peace for Ukraine in accordance with the UN Charter and international law. Respect for these principles was demonstrated by all those invited to participate in the event,” the statement said.

Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis clarified that the conference will discuss not only the Peace Formula of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, but also “many other proposals that need to be discussed.” China’s 12-point plan is also likely to be discussed at the peace conference.

It is also noted that the federal government intends to send invitations to the event to more than 100 countries. At the same time, Russia will not participate in the conference.

More than 160 delegations from around the world have been invited to the Global Peace Summit in Switzerland. This was reported by the press service of the Swiss government.

“In response to Ukraine’s request, Switzerland has invited more than 160 delegations from around the world to participate in the first peace summit in Ukraine, which will take place on June 15-16, 2024, in the resort of Burgenstock,” the statement said.

The summit will build on the discussions that have taken place in recent months, in particular on the Ukrainian peace formula and other peace proposals based on the UN Charter and key principles of international law.

Dictator Putin’s government has also constantly declared its readiness to negotiate with Ukraine. However, the Kremlin’s plan for “peace” implies Kyiv’s actual surrender.

Earlier, the President’s Office made a statement regarding negotiations with Russia against the backdrop of new US aid. They said that no one would talk to Russia on its terms.
