On Tuesday, August 13, the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine held an interagency meeting on strengthening control over the entry and exit of foreigners from Ukraine. This was reported on the official website of the National Security and Defense Council.

According to the source, the meeting was chaired by NSDC Secretary Oleksandr Lytvynenko. The participants discussed the implementation of previous decisions of the Council aimed at strengthening border and migration control under martial law.

The key proposal was to define a list of countries with visa-free regime whose citizens will be required to submit an electronic notification of their intention to enter Ukraine.

“The issue of the need to adapt Ukrainian legislation to EU legislation is becoming increasingly important,” the meeting participants noted. To this end, it is planned to develop and submit to the Verkhovna Rada a draft law on the introduction of an electronic entry notification system for citizens of visa-free countries.

Particular attention was paid to the creation of a mechanism for banning entry for foreigners whose stay in Ukraine is undesirable for reasons of national security.

It should be reminded that similar measures to tighten border control have already been implemented before. In particular, in June, it was announced that new rules for crossing the border for men of military age would be introduced.
