Thousands of Hasidim travel to Poland

Most guests are expected today and on Friday

Up to 10,000 Hasidim are expected to arrive in Lezhaysk, Podkarpackie, today and in the coming days to pray at the grave of Tzadik Elimelech on the 238th anniversary of his death. Jews will traditionally come from Europe, the United States, Canada, and Israel. After the prayer, some of them will leave the city and make room for other groups due to limited accommodation.

This was reported by “Polish Radio.

Mayor Krzysztof Trembach said that most guests are expected today and on Friday. He added that this is a big organizational challenge for the city:

“There are two foundations in Lezhaysk, one providing for about eight thousand burners, the other for more than one and a half thousand. That is, the total number is about ten thousand, and this is a big challenge for our city. I won’t hide the fact that we have been preparing for their arrival for more than a month now, together with the police and firefighters. We will do everything to ensure that the arrival of tourists in Lezhaysk is calm.”

The Hasidim who come to Leżajsk believe that the tzaddik comes down from heaven on the anniversary of his death and carries their requests to God for their health, the well-being of their children, or success at work. Elimelech was one of the three most famous tzaddiks of ancient Poland. He became famous as an active preacher of Hasidism.
