On April 25, at a meeting in Strasbourg, the European Parliament adopted a resolution “On the undemocratic presidential elections in Russia and their illegitimate extension to the occupied territories.” The resolution was supported by 493 deputies, 11 voted against and 18 abstained. The press service of the institution reports.

In the document, the deputies conclude that the so-called presidential elections in Russia were illegitimate and undemocratic.

Reportedly, the resolution strongly condemns all electoral violations committed by the Putin regime during the so-called presidential elections in Russia on March 15-17, 2024, as well as previous long-lasting and systemic repression and violations of civil and political rights;

The document emphasizes that the so-called presidential elections in Russia were held in an atmosphere of fear and repression, as well as in the context of an illegal, unprovoked and unjustified aggressive war against Ukraine.

Meanwhile, MEPs call on the EU to continue to actively support independent Russian civil society organizations, independent media and human rights defenders, as well as to actively engage with and support the Russian democratic opposition.
