Christian Democratic Appeal in the Netherlands

від Майданюк Валерій May 27, 2024

In the Netherlands, where Christian parties have been influencing the work of the government since the beginning of the twentieth century, the influential center-right conservative party Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA) holds a powerful position. Having overcome the confessional differences between Catholics and Protestants in the 1980s, the party became the most powerful force in the country, gaining 35.3% of the vote.

However, the party soon began to lose support, and in 1994, for the first time in 76 years, the Christian Democrats failed to enter the government. Many obituaries were written for the Dutch Christian Democrats in those days, but in the early 2000s the Christian Democratic Appeal became the largest party in parliament again. In 2006, the party regained 80% of its 1989 parliamentary seats, and took a key position in coalition formation.

The Christian Democratic Appeal party has proposed a modernized political platform that is rooted in the Christian democratic tradition, but also includes mainstream conservative, market-liberal proposals. The Dutch Christian Democracy was a response to social democracy, creating a special welfare state regime that systematically differs from both social democratic and conservative-liberal types of social policy. Its main features are the provision of privileges to families rather than individuals, the semi-state nature of the main aspects of social policy management and implementation rather than their centralization and state control, and the reproduction of social status rather than changes in the social structure. The system was aimed at protecting households, and social policy was mainly based on the principle of industrial insurance against occupational risks, financed by targeted contributions from employers’ and employees’ salaries. The main policy goal was to restore social cohesion and a social welfare regime based on transfers, insurance, and the privileged family.

In its latest political program, the Dutch party Christian Democratic Appeal declared its focus on a fair economy based on the principles of the Rhine model of cooperation, as opposed to the Anglo-Saxon model of competition and struggle. In the economic sphere, the party proposes to create a system of relief for small entrepreneurs during the quarantine in the form of incentives and compensation for losses

An important point of the party program is a call to stimulate women’s entrepreneurship through better access to knowledge and innovation, loans and subsidies. Significantly, the party advocates for the protection of European entrepreneurs within the framework of the Made in Europe strategy to increase strategic autonomy and limit dependence on third countries (China). Much attention is paid primarily to supporting hereditary family businesses and simplifying taxation and bureaucracy. The tax burden should not exceed the top rate of 49.5% anywhere.

The fundamental difference between the Christian Democratic Appeal and the left-wing Christian parties is its attitude toward big business. “Large companies and multinationals are indispensable for our prosperity and employment. They enhance the international image of our economy and act as a driver. For this reason, it is necessary to strengthen and maintain a good business climate for these companies in order to protect the economy and employment of citizens,” the Christian Democratic Call program states.

The party proposes simplifying the tax incentive system and a strategy to overcome the crisis through a combination of investing in economic recovery and increasing the resilience of companies and households. The party has declared a regime to facilitate business start-ups, encourage companies to hire employees on a long-term basis, support entrepreneurs who help people with disabilities to find jobs, and fight discrimination. To control the free development of entrepreneurship, it is proposed to introduce an independent tax ombudsman with the authority to investigate and help civilians who are in conflict with tax authorities. “The Christian Democratic Appeal shows concern for the general population and initiates part-time unemployment assistance programs.

“The Christian Democratic Call is a member of the government coalition. In the last parliamentary elections, the party won 21 seats out of 75 in the first chamber and 21 seats out of 150 in the second chamber of the General States. In addition, the Christian Democrats have 5 seats out of 25 allocated to the Netherlands in the European Parliament, where the party is a member of the European People’s Party faction.

NATO discusses the possibility of taking over the skies of western Ukraine

від Савицький Олексій May 27, 2024

NATO countries are currently discussing the possibility of taking the skies over the western regions of Ukraine under protection. This was reported by the German newspaper Bild, citing two unnamed sources.

Estonia, the United Kingdom, Poland, Canada, Lithuania, and France are in favor of expanding aid. However, the United States and Germany, as always fearing escalation, oppose such measures.

There are no final decisions yet, but negotiations are underway in several areas:

Training of the Ukrainian Armed Forces by NATO instructors on the territory of Ukraine.

Logistics. A number of NATO countries are ready to supply weapons and ammunition not only to Ukraine’s borders but also further to the front line in the future.

AIR DEFENSE. The protection of Western Ukraine’s airspace by NATO anti-aircraft systems is being discussed. Poland is the initiator of the “extended air defense,” but no final decision has been made.

At the same time, according to Bild, a number of NATO countries, including the United Kingdom, Canada, and Estonia, are also proposing to deliver weapons and ammunition not only to Ukraine’s borders but also further to the front line in the future. They are currently developing the concept of “advanced logistics.”

Who are we and how do we win?

від Юрій Гончаренко May 26, 2024

What should be the strategy of victory?” asks the author in his in his article by Mykola Bieleskov, one of the best Ukrainian experts in the field of defense and war studies. And he outlines plans for the war for the next two years. And needs, in particular –“the problem of mobilization illustrates the deep gap between the dominant postmodern liberal system of values, based on the comfort of the individual and the unattractiveness of military service as a future career, and the problem of protecting the state in the face of external aggression.”

At the moment, this is a key challenge for Ukraine, as virtually everyone involved in decision-making, communication with allies, and even public analytics is a carrier of this liberal value system. And despite everything, they try to think and plan in its coordinate system.

A simple example is the philosophy of the Reserve+ app and mobilization in general. It is focused on the comfort of the user/conscripts and does not actually contribute to mobilization. As, by and large, do the amendments to the law on mobilization. But here, developers and customers have fallen into their own trap, as the comfort of those in the rear conflicts with the comfort of those who have been at the front since February 24, 2022. And the result of the choice that had to be made was obvious.

However, the limitations of the liberal value system and rather primitive thinking have created several contradictions/paradoxes that the authors of the law and the customers of the app are not ready to answer:

  1. In its current form, the application actually works for those who have legitimate reasons for postponement/booking and wanted to check this status. However, in the end, they were forced to go update the data, which unnecessarily overloaded the TCC. Texty has a great report on this by Otar Dovzhenko. Be sure to read it.
  2. Realizing that the changes and the application would not increase the number of volunteers, they expanded the field of those who became liable for military service. By lowering the age limit, which is generally correct, and by recognizing the sick as fit, which looks like wild idiocy. For some positions will be filled by people who are physically dependent on regular intake of serious medications, after major surgeries, and with the risk of dying from simple overheating. I don’t understand why these people cannot be offered jobs in critical infrastructure, as drivers of public transport, employees of various departments, etc. And as a result, the healthy ones go into hiding, while the sick, who should be under constant medical supervision, end up in the army.
  3. The liberal system of values does not allow us to effectively counter Russian agents. This is a battlefield that we have already lost. No one dared to make the decision that was obvious and the only right one – to temporarily restrict the freedoms of those who acted against the interests of the state. As during World War II, the United States did with citizens of Japanese descent, imprisoning tens of thousands of people simply on the basis of their nationality.
  4. This value system also comes into conflict with effective manual management of quick decisions. Or, more simply, with the provision of the necessary not entirely legal means, or with a corruption component. As a result, there is a paradox when Pashynskyi, Liev and others are being prosecuted, Reznikov is being attacked, but thousands of those who took bribes, which led to hundreds of thousands of conscripts being abroad, are not being touched. The reason is that the work of the TCC and the HQC must be documented, which is difficult on this scale, and isolated cases like Pashynskyi’s or Reznikov’s are convenient, media-friendly, and appeal to grantors.

To conclude with regard to mobilization, I would like to note that the authoritarian Russia quickly made the right decision: it stopped unpopular mobilization “on the street”, covering the urgent need for prisoners and PMCs, and moved to targeted contact and covert methods. At the same time, it has generally provided more freedoms to the average Russian than in Ukraine. And, as a result, a sincere motivation to continue the war and a queue of those who are interested in the material side of participation in the war.

Support from allies

The holders of the liberal worldview refuse to recognize the reality in which their values no longer have no alternative. And while one part of society in the United States and Europe is moving toward extreme manifestations of liberalism, opposing trends are gaining ground. First of all, because the current application of liberalism is already turning into the direct opposite of itself – the dictatorship of not just a minority, but often disappearing small groups. Having started with a mostly fair fight against their discrimination, we end up with a situation where the total majority does not understand what it did wrong, for what reasons it is being imposed on it that is absolutely unacceptable.

There is a conflict between the positions of political elites and voters in major Western countries. And since traditional elites have not shown flexibility, the time has come for populists and radicals. They give simple answers to complex questions, operate with conspiracy theories, and are mostly favorable to Russia. Because Putin captured this field in advance and generously fertilized it with money from oil and gas sales.

However, we still have a chance to win on this field. The proof is the successful operation to persuade US Congress Speaker Johnson, when it was Christian pastors from Ukraine who convinced him that we are more our own than Russia.

Who are we?

This is really the key now – to be our own for the allies. Because the shock effect of the beginning of the largest war in Europe since World War II has passed. The victims, the horrific crimes of Bucha and Mariupol have become commonplace. Many countries perceive refugees from Ukraine not as a problem or a threat, but as a solution to demographic problems.

On the other hand, Russia has broken the expectations of sanctions, of internal instability, and has found effective allies. And no matter how much we sneer at the DPRK, they give Putin the weapons that kill us. All in all, Russia has switched to the “USSR under siege” mode and is holding up quite well. In order to defeat this monster again, the West needs to reorganize and have Reagan-level leaders.

Otherwise, the West can quite calmly watch the killing of millions of people without intervening, even when it has all the means and resources. The events in Rwanda are proof of this. And, by and large, how many Ukrainians cared about the killing of tens or hundreds of thousands of Tutsis per day? Well, except for watching a famous Hollywood movie.

Therefore, Ukraine must clearly define itself in these civilizational coordinates. And it is a big mistake to believe that the markers of Euro-Atlantic civilization are freedom of speech or the fight against corruption, for example. Or minority rights.

However, for minorities, the opposite is true. And here Ukraine faces a difficult choice. In France or Britain, for example, minorities make up a significant part of their society. And they pose such serious problems that “old migrants” represented by Risha Sunak are lobbying for very strict laws on the expulsion of migrants. And in France, anti-migrant rhetoric makes Le Pen’s party popular.

The interests of minorities in Europe and the United States are almost completely opposed to the interests of indigenous, or rather traditional, inhabitants. In the United States, this directly became the main topic of the presidential campaign and a reason for not providing assistance to Ukraine. And since Ukraine is required to decide who we are, this choice will have to be made.

And in it, we have to pragmatically assume that we will be so close to these minorities that they will be willing to fight for us? Just look at Obama’s policy, the calls of current Labor leaders, Biden’s deep concern, and so on. Remember that Boris Johnson made a break in Western assistance. That the European right, except for those who are directly financed by Putin, is almost all for us.

Think about it and decide: who are we and with whom?

Robert Schuman – the “father” of the European Union

від Майданюк Валерій May 26, 2024

Recently, European countries celebrated the anniversary of the creation of the EU, which is generally dated back to May 9, 1950, when the Schuman Declaration, a plan to create a coal and steel community among six European countries, was published. This was the first step towards the European Union that remains a fixed idea for Ukraine.

Robert Schumann, who is rightly considered one of the “founding fathers” of European integration, had good reason to fight for the unification of Europe. Schumann was born in 1886 in Lorraine, which at that time belonged to Germany. This territory often passed from one state to another as a result of numerous wars and geopolitical vicissitudes. The family spoke Luxembourgish. In 1912, Schumann studied law in Strasbourg (today the university is named after him). In 1913, he took part in the Catholic Congress in the French city of Metz, where he realized the importance of Christian values for European civilization. At the outbreak of World War I, for health reasons, he performed civilian service as a lawyer in the German administration.

After the war, as a result of the return of Lorraine to France, he became a French citizen and even a member of parliament. During the Second World War, Schumann was arrested by the Germans for his participation in the Resistance movement, but escaped and was forced to go into hiding. After the Second World War, he successfully continued his political career in France: he became Minister of Finance, Prime Minister in 1947-48, and Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Schuman was extremely concerned about security issues in Europe. The experience of the two world wars showed that peace and security required the creation of an institution that would restrain or mutually control the development of the military-industrial complex of the two largest European powers, France and Germany. Schumann began working on his main project, the creation of an industrial and economic association of the two longtime historical rivals in Europe. Schumann’s plan was realized in 1951 with the signing of the Treaty of Paris establishing the European Coal and Steel Community. France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg became members of the organization.

The Schuman Declaration contained three key points:

1. Immediate goal: Franco-German reconciliation. In order to prevent future hypothetical wars between the two countries, France proposes to introduce joint control over coal and steel production in France and Germany. A specially created High Authority would oversee the integration of these countries’ markets in the metallurgical and energy sectors.

    2. Strategic goal: gradual creation of a political union that would make military conflicts between European countries impossible.

    3. Gradualism: According to Schuman, a united Europe will not be created overnight, but only by concrete actions based on true solidarity.

This document is recognized as fundamental to the creation of the EU.

As the French Foreign Minister from 1948 to 1953, Schuman participated in the signing of the Charter of the Council of Europe (1949) and the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Freedoms (1950). And after a long process of integration and many international agreements, the modern EU was formed – an association of 27 countries based on common human and democratic values.

In 1958, Schuman was elected president of the European Assembly (1958-1960), which later became the European Parliament. From 1955 to 1961, he headed the European Movement. On September 4, 1967, the “father of Europe” died.

Residents of the city of Metz, where Schumann lived, began the process of beatification, believing that French-German peace and good neighborliness after years of enmity was a miracle performed by Schumann. For 14 years, residents collected evidence of the politician’s sainthood, although many experts advised Schuman’s supporters not to conflate politics with miracles. At the same time, the Vatican responded to the efforts to canonize the “Father of Europe.” Pope Francis signed a decree recognizing the “heroic virtues” of Schumann, an active Christian and politician. For now, the Catholic Church will honor Schumann as a “reverend”.

But the grandiose project of European unification initiated by Schumann, which the “Father of Europe” himself advised to be based on Christian values, is of unprecedented civilizational and value significance.

Putin’s ally Valentina Matvienko, who authorized Russia’s war against Ukraine, was served a notice of suspicion by the SBU

від Савицький Олексій May 24, 2024

The Security Service of Ukrainehas documented new crimes committed by Valentina Matvienko, the head of the Council of the Federation of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, who is facilitating Russia’s war against Ukraine.

In February 2022, she signed the decision of the upper house of the Russian parliament to send troops of the aggressor country into the territory of our country.

In addition, the official approved the ratification of agreements on the “accession” of the temporarily occupied parts of Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions to the Russian Federation.
It is currently coordinating the spread of the Kremlin regime in these territories under the guise of their integration into the “legislative field” of Russia.

She also continues to publicly spread fakes about the Ukrainian Defense Forces and the situation at the front.

At the same time, Matvienko continues to publicly spread Russian propaganda. In numerous appearances on Russian propaganda TV channels, the official denies the existence of Ukraine as a sovereign state and calls for its complete annexation.

The forensic linguistic examination initiated by the SBU confirmed the facts of the suspect’s criminal activity against our state.

Based on the new evidence, investigators notified her in absentia of suspicion under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:

    ?ч. 3 of Article 110 (encroachment on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine);

?ч. 3 of Article 436-2 (justification of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine).

Earlier, Matviyenko had already received a suspicion in absentia of incitement to start and wage an aggressive war.

Since the offender is in Russia, comprehensive measures are being taken to bring her to justice for crimes against our country.

Orban: Russia is unlikely to “swallow the West whole” as it cannot even defeat Ukraine

від Савицький Олексій May 24, 2024

Viktor Orban believes Russia is unlikely to attack any NATO member, as its troops are not strong enough to win a quick victory in Ukraine – Reuters

Orban said that the Russian military is waging a serious and difficult war against Ukrainians.

“If the Russians were strong enough to defeat the Ukrainians in one fell swoop, they would have done it already,” the Hungarian prime minister said.

He emphasized that NATO’s military capabilities far exceed Ukraine’s, so it is unlikely that Russia or any other country would attack NATO.

Orban added that he sees statements about Russia’s potential attack on NATO members as a prelude to deeper Western involvement in the war in Ukraine.

“What is happening today in Brussels and Washington, perhaps more in Brussels than in Washington, is a kind of preparation for a possible direct military conflict, we can safely call it: preparation for Europe’s entry into war,” the prime minister said.

Christian Democracy in Germany – CDU

від Майданюк Валерій May 23, 2024

The main unifying idea of the CDU was the Christian basis, which turned out to be the only ideology in the country that was not discredited after the defeat of Nazism and the crimes of communism, and looked much more attractive against the background of the shortcomings of liberalism.

The largest partner party in the CDU/CSU bloc – The Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU, German: Christlich Demokratische Union Deutschlands, CDU) emerged in 1946 after the unification of the conservative forces of the former Weimar Republic.

The party was headed by Konrad Adenauer, a consistent fighter against Nazism and a committed Christian. Many of the founders of the CDU, including Konrad Adenauer, were imprisoned by the Nazis for their participation in the German Resistance. After the Second World War, Christian democracy became the only acceptable political idea in Germany that could unite all citizens around the values of goodness, justice, and humanism on a conflict-free basis. In the pre-war years, this ideology was represented in the country by a number of Protestant and Catholic parties, including the Center Party, which represented the interests of Catholics in the Bundestag.

The CDU immediately declared its orientation toward both Catholics and Protestants, declaring interfaith and supra-confessionalism as its main principle. The very word “union” in the party’s name emphasizes the emphasis on unification rather than confessional or class divisions. The CDU has laid a new beginning in the history of German parties, whose spiritual and political roots lie in the Christian-based resistance to the National Socialist terror regime, in the social ethics of Christian churches, and in the liberal traditions of the European Enlightenment.

The CDU was the dominant party for the first two decades after the founding of Germany in 1949, and it still holds a leading position in the German political arena. In 1957, the CDU gained an absolute majority in the Bundestag, which was the only case in the history of the republic. During the years of the Christian Democrats’ rule, Germany joined NATO and joined European integration structures. It was the CDU/CSU politicians who developed and implemented the economic and social reforms that turned Germany from a war-torn country into a successful and prosperous state. The party has more than half a million members throughout Germany, and CDU members hold the highest positions in the country.

It was during the CDU/CSU’s rule that the “German economic miracle” took place, and the country rapidly became the first in Europe in terms of economic performance. In the 1970s, after more than a decade of losing political primacy to its ideological opponents, the Social Democrats, the CDU returned to power in the 1980s. During the rule of CDU chairman Helmut Kohl, the Berlin Wall came down and Germany was reunified, and the Christian Democrats again won with their coalition partners. Throughout the postwar years, the support of the German Christian Democrats has been at the level of 25-30%, and CDU leaders, even in coalitions with the Social Democrats or the Free Democrats, most often hold the post of chancellor. Today, the CDU has the largest number of seats in the Bundestag, and a significant number of CDU members have been elected to local authorities and federal state parliaments. The total number of CDU members in the Landtags is 563.

The main political values of the CDU are the principles of Christian democracy, which are based on Christian ethics and prioritize individuality, freedom and human rights. Such Christian principles as freedom, social justice and solidarity have become the main motto of the CDU’s social policy. And the Christian understanding of man gives the German Christian Democrats an ethical basis for responsible policy. Christian Democrats believe that the basis of the economy is a social market economy based on fair trade, social responsibility of business and environmental protection.

The CDU program is based on the ethical foundations of Christianity and social justice. In domestic politics, the German Christian Democrats defend the principle of subsidiarity, advocating for limiting the centralized influence of the state at the local level and transferring the main power to local communities. The German CDU is also tolerant of other religions and protects freedom of conscience and religion and respects the rights of other ethnic communities.

In the development of the CDU program, the most influential document was the 1949 Düsseldorf Theses by Ludwig Erhard, in which the party declared its focus on a “social market economy.” By this, the party understands a socially oriented system in which economic freedom and free competition of individuals and businesses should be in harmony with the principles of social justice and civic solidarity. Private ownership is combined with social responsibility, social protection and support of the education system, which should create equal starting opportunities for all members of society. The role of the state is to create favorable conditions for economic development and to adhere to the principle of subsidiarity, i.e. to help only in those matters in which personal responsibility is not enough to achieve the public good and social protection. In the economic sphere, the CDU sees the main task as supporting economic growth and reducing unemployment, reforming taxation and health care systems.

The CDU’s Stuttgart Programmatic Theses of 1984 reflect a new understanding of technology and the environment, in which German Christian Democrats express the idea of limiting the use of new technologies where technology begins to lose its function of serving man. In particular, interference with human DNA, which can harm the Christian image of man, created in the likeness of God.

As a center-right party, the CDU expresses respect for traditions, authority, and the family, and Christian morality has a huge influence on the worldview of CDU members.

China is “providing or preparing to provide” Russia with weapons for war against Ukraine – British Defense Minister Shepps

від Савицький Олексій May 22, 2024

The US and British intelligence agencies have evidence that China is preparing to provide Russia with lethal aid for use in the war against Ukraine. This was reported by Reuters.

This was stated by British Defense Secretary Grant Shapps at a conference in London.

“Lethal aid is now or will be coming from China to Russia and Ukraine, and I consider this a significant development,” he said.

Shapps did not provide evidence to support his claim.

“We should be concerned about this because in the early days of this war, China would like to present itself as a deterrent to Russian President Vladimir Putin,” he added.

As you know, last month the Chinese Embassy in the United States stated that it did not provide weapons to Russia, adding that China “is not a producer or party involved in the Ukrainian crisis.”

However, China continues to sell to Russia technologies for mass production of drones and weapons components, thus helping the aggressor country to achieve its military goals in the war against Ukraine.

Earlier this month, Putin visited China, where he and Chinese leader Xi Jinping pledged a “new era” of partnership that means confronting the United States on a range of security issues and taking a common view on everything from Taiwan to Ukraine.

SBU serves notice of suspicion to producer Yuriy Bardash, who fled to Russia and calls for seizure of Ukrainian cities

від Савицький Олексій May 22, 2024

The SBU served suspicion notices to Ukrainian producer Yuriy Bardash for publicly calling for a violent change in the constitutional order, distributing materials calling for changes in the borders of the territory, propaganda of war and justifying Russian aggression against Ukraine.

At the beginning of the full-scale invasion, he fled to Russia, where he launched a broad information campaign in support of the occupiers. For this purpose, Bardash regularly publishes anti-Ukrainian posts on the pages of his own Telegram channel with a total audience of almost 50 thousand users. Among other things, the defendant calls for the capture of Kyiv and Kharkiv.

The SBU added that Bardash also regularly repeats the theses of Russian propaganda on the Kremlin’s propaganda broadcasts on YouTube.

Based on the evidence collected, SBU investigators served Bardash a notice of suspicion in absentia under four articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:

    • ч. 2, Art. 109 (public calls for violent change of the constitutional order, as well as distribution of materials calling for such actions);
    • Art. 1, 2 Art. 110 (distribution of materials calling for changes in the boundaries of the territory in violation of the procedure established by the Constitution of Ukraine);
    • Article 436 (propaganda of war);
    • ч. 1, part 3 of Art. 436-2 (justification, recognition of the legitimacy, denial of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, glorification of its participants).

SBU-initiated examinations confirmed the facts of his information and subversive activities in favor of the aggressor.

As Bardash is hiding from justice in Russia, comprehensive measures are being taken to bring him to justice for his crimes against Ukraine.

    What is known about Bardash

Born on February 23, 1983, in Alchevsk, Luhansk region, Bardash is a former Ukrainian producer, choreographer, and singer. He is the founder of the Kruzheva Music production center. Founder and producer of the Quest Pistols, Quest Pistols Show, Gryby, Nerves, Moon, Wellboy, and other projects. Former member of the band Gryby.

After the start of the full-scale invasion, Yuriy Bardash has not yet spoken out clearly about the war in Ukraine.

After the start of Russia’s large-scale invasion of Ukraine, the producer and singer fled to Georgia and from there to Russia. He has repeatedly stated that he supports the actions of the Russian authorities. Bardash has also repeatedly criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and other members of the country’s political leadership on his social media accounts.

Georgiy (Yuriy) Bardash, born in Ukraine, has already received Russian citizenship. He changed his name from Yuri to George on the recommendation of a priest from the monastery in Pechory.
