The first “cauldron” in Suja: 2 battalions of the Russian Armed Forces are surrounded

від Юрій Гончаренко August 8, 2024

The BIGCATS.info Telegram channel Kursk – Sudzha reports that the first “cauldron” for Russian troops has been created near the town of Sudzha in Kursk region, which borders on Sumy region. According to the available information, two battalions of the Russian armed forces are surrounded.

According to the data available to the research and analysis group InfoLight.UAit is the 17th battalion of the 488th regiment and the 31st battalion of the 102nd brigade of the Russian army.

Russian military bloggers claim that the command of the surrounded units is “aware of the situation, but does nothing.” This may indicate serious problems with coordination and command and control of troops on the part of the Russian leadership.

There is currently no official confirmation of this information from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine or other official sources. We continue to monitor the developments and await additional details.

The term “cauldron” in military terminology means the encirclement of enemy forces, which makes it impossible for them to retreat and creates the threat of complete destruction or capture.

Azawad rebels accuse ECOWAS and Senegal of supporting Russian mercenaries

від Юрій Гончаренко August 7, 2024

The Permanent Strategic Framework for the Protection of the Azawadu People (CSP-DPA ) issued a press release sharply criticizing the position of ECOWAS and Senegal on the recent clashes in Tinzawaten in northern Mali.

The CSP-DPA is a coalition of Arab, Tuareg and Fulani tribes fighting for the independence of Azawad, the historical homeland of the Tuareg in what is now Mali. The group accuses the Malian authorities and Russian mercenaries from the Wagner PMC of attacking civilians and violating previous peace agreements.

After the military coup in Mali in 2021, the new government turned to Russia for military assistance, which led to the appearance of Wagner PMC fighters in the region. The CSP-DPA accuses them of fighting against the rebels and ethnic cleansing.

In its statement, the CSP-DPA expresses surprise at the position of Senegal and ECOWAS, which condemned the rebels’ actions, calling them “an attack on the Malian armed forces.” Representatives of Azawad claim that they were actually defending themselves against an attack by Russian mercenaries and the Malian army.

The organization calls on the international community not to ignore human rights violations by the Malian authorities and the Wagner PMC, and to help return the country to constitutional order.

Below is the full text of the CSP-DPA press release:

Press release no: 09/BE/CSP-DPA/2024

Regarding the respective statements by Senegal and ECOWAS on the clashes in Tinzawaten on July 25, 26 and 27.

The CSP-DPA has watched with great confusion and questions the chain reaction to the clashes in Tinzavaten on July 25, 26 and 27, in particular from the Senegalese and ECOWAS authorities, who have condemned the “attack on the Malian armed forces” without prejudice.

The Permanent Strategic Framework for the Defense of the Azawadu People, consisting of the signatory movements of the former Algiers Agreement, is a political and military organization whose main mission is to defend the rights and interests of the Azawadu people.

It rejects and condemns any malicious intent to tax it or confuse it with other entities or formations with different ideologies in a Machiavellian intent to undermine its legitimate struggle for the legal and political status of AZAWAD.

The CSP-DPA wishes to clarify that its forces, while on a mission to protect displaced civilians who had settled in Tinzawaten, were deliberately attacked and defended against a horde of Russian mercenaries from the Wagner group, accompanied by elements of the Malian military junta’s army.

The CSP-DPA is surprised that countries and organizations sufficiently immersed in the political issue that opposes it to the central government in Bamako, as members of the international mediation under the outdated Agreement stemming from the Algiers Process, show such ignorance or denial of reality that they even call its legitimate forces terrorists.

However, the CSP-DPA remains available to cooperate to provide more information on this situation to any state or organization that wishes to do so.

The CSP-DPA deplores the silence of the international community, especially African states and organizations, in the face of all the serious crimes committed against civilians by international mercenaries hired by the Bamako putschists. A practice legally and morally attributable to this junta and its allies, which, if not condemned, contributes to the perpetuation of insecurity and instability in the region.

The CSP-DPA recalls that by refraining from condemning the ethnic cleansing deliberately carried out by the Bamako junta and Wagner’s Russian mercenaries against certain targeted communities in Azawad and central Mali, states and organizations that condemn its self-defense actions are clearly providing moral support to Wagner’s presence in the Sahel and, as a result, issuing a blank check for the extrajudicial execution of unarmed populations.

The CSP-DPA strongly expects Senegal, ECOWAS and all those who wish to advocate for peace and social justice to work to extinguish the fire between the people of Azawadou and the Bamako junta in order to save the lives of innocent civilians, and otherwise refrain from making statements with partisan connotations.

Needless to say, the CSP-DPA went to war against the coalition forces of the Malian Junta Army and the Russian mercenaries of the Wagner Group after they expelled MINUSMA, violated the Agreement for Peace and National Reconciliation stemming from the Algiers Process, before announcing its termination by attacking its positions. This record should not be ignored or forgotten by any actor, especially those who were involved in the process from the beginning.

To our brotherly country of Senegal, a state with an inspiring democracy that has had the distinction of contributing to MINUSMA through a strong contingent of senior military and political officials, we ask for a better analysis of the situation to avoid contributing to the confusion that is being sustained at the expense of peace in the sub-region.

Finally, the CSP-DPA reminds ECOWAS that it would be more in its role to work to force the Bamako junta to quickly return to normal constitutional order, release political and prisoners of conscience, and rid the country of Wagner Group mercenaries, rather than supporting it in its momentum of disregard for democracy, confiscation of freedoms, and heinous human rights abuses.

Democracy in the Christian Democratic Dimension

від Майданюк Валерій August 4, 2024

There are many “versions” of democracy, but it is Christian democracy that is focused on taking into account the interests of the whole society and has “safeguards” against authoritarian tendencies.

Christian democracy is an ideological and political platform that aims to integrate Christian principles and democracy, and sees the solution to key contemporary problems in the light of Christian morality and Christian humanism. The ideological basis of Christian democracy is based on the Christian principles of human rights, democracy, and class and social reconciliation. Christian democracy shares the conservative values of individualism, respect for private property, anti-communism, and opposition to excessive state intervention in public affairs. As Professor Udi Greenberg has rightly noted, Christian democracy, born in response to fascism and communism, argued that human “dignity”-a quality defined by God-is best realized through a combination of pluralistic politics and Christian social teaching.

In the context of social upheavals, world wars, and revolutions of the twentieth century, Christian democracy emerged as a political force that could claim to be a constructive alternative to destructive social trends between extremes: between left-wing populism and old bureaucratic conservatism. In the context of the diversity of approaches to understanding democracy, Christian democrats are supporters of the concept of pluralistic democracy. This concept was a compromise between the theories of participatory democracy, which idealizes the possibility of active political participation of all members of society, and elitist democracy, which claims that democracy is not the power of the people, but the ability of the people to choose their rulers.

The pluralist theory of democracy is based on the idea that neither the people nor the individual can be the main driving force of the political process in a democratic state. In practice, with the exception of national liberation movements, the people cannot be the only subject of politics. People always consist of competing interest groups and are very heterogeneous. Hence, it is impossible to achieve any single understanding of the “people’s good”. Therefore, in a situation where each citizen or social group has its own understanding of good, happiness, welfare and ways to achieve them, democracy cannot be effective without group interaction, fair representation and coordination of interests. It is in the group that the interests and value orientations of citizens are formed, and it is only through the group that an individual can express his or her political interests. The purpose of democracy, according to Christian democrats, is primarily to provide all social groups with the opportunity to express and protect their interests.

These interests are expressed through interest groups, such as trade unions, business associations, religious and cultural associations. Instead, the state is seen as a neutral arbiter between competing political groups, whose task is to prevent one group from gaining an advantage over another and to preserve the conditions of free political competition.

Christian democrats do not support the absolutization of individual freedom inherent in liberalism, which leads to polarization of society and political instability. An alternative to this should be pluralistic democracy, based on the consideration of the diversity of social interests. Pluralistic democracy is democracy for all. It ensures a balance of power between class, national, economic, social, and other interest groups that drive politics and are central to a democratic political system. Its main feature is the open nature of political decision-making through representative bodies. Due to the presence of autonomous associations in society, such as Christian communities, the pluralistic model of democracy creates mechanisms that make the government accountable to the people.

For a pluralistic democracy, it is important not only to have ideological pluralism, but also social pluralism, which means taking into account all the interests of social groups. Christian democrats recognize the principles of interdependence and interconnectedness of society, in which the common good can be achieved only through joint efforts, so communities must take into account the interests of other communities. Pluralistic democracy is based on a clear sense of solidarity among different social groups, which implies that politicians are responsible to their voters, communities, and trade unions. However, protecting the interests of one’s community or group must be done with the requirements of the common good in mind. Only under such conditions does a culture of solidarity become a prerequisite for the prosperity of a democratic, social and legal state.

Thanks to the broad representation of the interests of all social groups, the pluralistic model of democracy supported by Christian democrats prevents the government from pursuing policies that harm the interests of citizens for a long time.

A parody of our own culture

від Майданюк Валерій August 3, 2024

The mockery of Christian values at the Olympic Games in Paris signals that much of European civilization is at a cultural crossroads, while aggressive regimes are purposeful and ideologically motivated. Paradoxically, it is becoming the norm in Europe to prohibit criticism of anything other than one’s own civilizational values, although not everyone realizes the threats this poses to Western democracies.

All prominent European thinkers and scholars have noted the decisive influence of Christianity on the formation and content of European civilization. Like it or not, one of the core features of world civilizations – Western, Arab-Muslim, Indian, and Chinese – is primarily religion. Every great and successful civilization had its own religion.

This does not imply religious fanaticism or killing for the sake of religion, but rather a value orientation that sets the social rules of the game. Science knows of no cases of the emergence and development of any civilization without religion, or, more specifically, of the educational and integrating influence of religion on society. Even well-known atheists such as Richard Dawkins, who calls himself a cultural Christian because he admires the ceremonial and philanthropic aspects of Christianity, recognize the crucial role of religion.

The recent scandalous performance at the Olympic Games in Paris, which parodied Jesus and the “Last Supper,” showed that Europe is not above officially mocking its cultural foundations, Christianity. At least, this is how representatives of other civilizations see it: Islamic, Chinese, and Indian. While in other civilizations their cultural values are protected by law, even to the point of repression, the European organizers of the Olympic Games decided to make a parody of Christianity with images of sexual minorities. The participants of the performance said that in this way they wanted to “unite people” and at the same time stated that “art always divides.”

Catholic Bishop Robert Barron urged Catholics not to hesitate to resist blasphemy and condemned pseudo-tolerance: “…everyone is tolerated, all this diversity is wonderful – until it comes to anyone who disagrees with your ideology, like these 2.6 billion people. So stop this talk of tolerance and diversity,” he said. “I wonder what planet they live on if they think that harmony, peace, etc. has been achieved by this clear insult to Christians.

British journalist Douglas Murray notes that a decade and a half ago, atheists in Europe could freely criticize religion, but after the attacks by Muslim fanatics on critics of Islam, no one dares to say anything bad about Islam in Europe. Only Christianity can be criticized without consequences – Christians will not cut off your head or blow you up with explosives, unlike other representatives of “cultural diversity.” Many conservatives also point out that, under the fear of Islamist attacks, scholars criticizing religion are less and less often invited to TV studios, unless they criticize only Christianity.

While in the West, ultra-liberals are busy ridiculing their traditional European culture and trying to replace it with something new that is laughed at and scorned by non-Western cultures, the world is becoming an increasingly dangerous place for democracies. China is absorbed in world leadership based on a mixture of communism and cultural greatness, India, under the leadership of Narendra Modi, is experiencing a wave of surprisingly intolerant nationalism, Erethia is mired in a web of aggressive scrambles and threatens Western countries with nuclear bombing, and Islamic countries are entering a period of militant expansion of faith, which is the civilizational equivalent of the Crusades. And only Europe, instead of civilizational mobilization against anti-democratic forces, is busy destroying and ridiculing its own integrative cultural foundations that could unite the countries of the continent in a war that the West is in no hurry to notice is beginning.

Budanov in a “childish style”: Hapchynska surprised with unusual portrait of the head of the GUR

від Юрій Гончаренко August 2, 2024

Famous Ukrainian artist Yevhenia Gapchynska, known for her paintings of angels, unexpectedly presented a portrait of the head of the Defense Ministry’s Main Intelligence Directorate, Kyrylo Budanov, in her signature “childish style,” NV reports .

The new work was posted on Gapchynska’s Instagram with the caption “Budanov’s charming smile,” causing a considerable response among her followers. The artist did not explain what inspired her to create this unusual portrait.

In the comments, users note the similarity of the artwork to the real-life Budanov, are interested in the symbolism of the frog in the aquarium and its pose, and thank him for lifting their spirits.

It is worth noting that this is not the first time that Hapchynska has addressed political topics. In 2022, she created a portrait of the then British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, and in the summer of 2023, she dedicated her work to Ukrainian families whose men are defending the country, calling it “500 Days of Our Dad at War.”

It is significant that Yevheniia’s husband, artist Dmytro Hapchynskyi, is also at the front, defending Ukraine.

Ukrainian Special Forces strike at Russian base in Syria – exclusive footage

від Юрій Гончаренко July 31, 2024

The media received exclusive video and photos showing a successful operation of Ukrainian special forces of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine against Russian troops in Syria, the Kyiv Post reports .

According to the publication’s sources in the special services, at the end of July 2024, the Khimik group carried out a comprehensive strike against the positions of the Russian occupation forces at the Kuveyres airfield near Aleppo. The published footage shows how the Russian electronic warfare complex is first destroyed, and then military facilities at the airfield itself are attacked.

It is noteworthy that the strike was carried out the day after Putin’s meeting with Assad on July 24. According to intelligence sources, this airfield was also used to train mercenaries for deployment to Ukraine.

This airfield is controlled by the Russians and has been used for military purposes since 2015.

In early June, Ukrainian special forces already conducted successful operations against Russian forces in the Golan Heights. Since the beginning of the year, rebels supported by Ukrainian soldiers have launched numerous strikes against Russian targets in Syria.

It is worth noting that after the deployment of some troops from Syria to Ukraine last fall, Russian positions in the region became more vulnerable. At the same time, the Russians continue to recruit mercenaries for the war against Ukraine.

As you know, in May 2023, the head of the GUR, Kirill Budanov, announced his intention to “destroy Russian war criminals anywhere in the world.” In addition to Syria, Ukrainian special forces continue operations against the Wagnerites in Africa.

Challenges and Christian Democratic Response to European Problems

від Майданюк Валерій July 29, 2024

Although today we understand Europe to be much wider than the EU borders, we often start to equate these concepts – “EU” and “European” – at the everyday level. This is wrong, because Europe is much broader than the association of 27 countries, and the EU is even beginning to lose its former members, such as the United Kingdom.

At least another 13 countries are not EU members, including developed Western European countries (Norway, the United Kingdom, Iceland, Switzerland), as well as poorer 6 Balkan countries (Serbia, Montenegro, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Kosovo) and 3 Eastern European countries (Moldova, Ukraine, Belarus), as well as countries that partially lie in Europe – Russia, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkey, and Kazakhstan.

Today, the EU and Europe as a whole are going through another stage of struggle against challenges that test their strength.

These and other problems are causing a certain frustration among Europeans, many of whom are looking for salvation in the arms of outspoken right-wing or left-wing populists who promise simple solutions immediately. Christian democracy is also going through a difficult time because its position is quite complex, its politics is based on balanced centrism, responsibility, cooperation and solidarity, and many people are tired of being like that, looking for simple recipes for all the new troubles. As a result, there are outbreaks of popularity of either far-right political forces that captivate the European people with simple proposals to “throw migrants out”, “keep them out”, “fight Islam”, or far-left political forces with their “fight capitalism and the rich, imperialists who are to blame for everything”, “fight the dominance of religious paternalism and traditional values, white supremacism and Christianity”.

These slogans from both sides undermine the foundations of the idea of a united Europe, which is built on the basis of unifying Christian values, which are essentially the foundation of this idea and in their time gave rise to the idea of human rights, solidarity, freedom, responsibility and cooperation. Denial and dilution of these ideas leads to the destruction of the foundations of the common European home, which can cause inevitable and large-scale disasters.

Kirill Budanov congratulated KSE graduates and received an honorary title

від Юрій Гончаренко July 28, 2024

On July 27, 2024, Kyrylo Budanov, the Chief of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, took part in the graduation ceremony of the Kyiv School of Economics (KSE). During the event, he delivered an inspirational speech and received an honorary degree from the school.

In his address to the graduates, Budanov emphasized the importance of continuous learning and the desire to be a leader in one’s field. “There are no unattainable goals for a person who strives for knowledge and is ready for challenges. You should always be number one,” he said.

The DIU chief also emphasized the role of current events in the country’s development: “War is not the best page in the history of any state. But war is also a development. Historical experience shows that extraordinary events have always given impetus to technological, industrial and scientific achievements.”

The Kyiv School of Economics recognized Kyrylo Budanov’s contribution to the development of Ukrainian statehood, national security, and strategic cooperation with educational and scientific institutions by awarding him an honorary degree.

The official part was followed by a question and answer session, where the graduates had the opportunity to talk to the DIU chief. When asked what kind of specialists Ukraine lacks, Budanov replied: “graduates of the Kyiv School of Economics”.

Concluding the meeting, Kirill Budanov expressed confidence in Ukraine’s future: “We will definitely live and work in a wonderful, free, independent Ukraine. We will determine our own future and the fate of our own country.”

Potential allies of Ukraine

від Майданюк Валерій July 28, 2024

It may seem paradoxical to many Ukrainians, but many of our opponents in the West have more in common with Ukraine than those we used to consider allies.

American and European conservatives and right-wingers, except for those who are on the Kremlin’s payroll and are paid for deliberate lies, are very close to the traditional views of Ukrainians in their worldview.

For example, Trumpists have almost the same vision of migration, gender and LGBT issues, traditional values, and preservation of customary social norms as Ukrainians do with BLM supporters from the US Democratic Party. The situation is similar with European conservatives, who stand for the protection of public morality, the traditional family type, freedom of speech without censorship, and true equality based on race or gender, without the illusion of positive discrimination.

The problem is that some Western powers that have so much in common with Ukrainians often oppose military and financial support for Ukraine for several main reasons:

A) They are in opposition and criticize any initiatives of liberal governments, even if they would support Ukraine if they came to power. This is a matter of political conjuncture, which always follows a similar logic.

B) Populists who are simply looking for topics that are favorable for electoral points. These people are not direct enemies of Ukraine, but situationally they are in a position where it is beneficial to criticize aid to our country. If you work with them and convey the Ukrainian position, it is quite possible to explain something to someone there.

C) Latent Russian agents or environments that feed from the Kremlin trough and profess anti-Western conspiracy theories. It’s hard to argue with those who are paid to have a different opinion. However, there are a lot of zombies in this environment who are just victims of propaganda.

Ukrainians should work with the first two categories and even with the third audience and spread our point of view. They oppose the dominance of “the Freemasons and the world government,” and Ukraine is a small state fighting against the aggression of a huge empire. If one wants to be on the side of good against the world’s evil, one should stand with Ukraine. The same thesis could be supported in the Global South, which has begun to complain about the dominance of the “northerners” – Russia is precisely the northern country that is launching its colonial tentacles into African and Asian countries.

Christians should know that our country is one of the last strongholds of Western civilization fighting against the Chechen-Buryat horde. If someone admires the Crusaders, then the modern crusaders are Ukrainians who are protecting the eastern flank of Western civilization with their resistance.

Texas macho men and jeep-riding gun enthusiasts need to know that Ukraine is a country of strong people who are bravely fighting for their land and homes against cruel barbarians. Virtually every category of European right-wing and conservative circles could find their ideals embodied in the Ukrainian struggle for freedom if this information were conveyed to them. The Ukrainian diaspora and the new wave of emigrants have a tremendous amount of work to do to convey to Westerners the truth that pro-Russian influencers and anonymous telegram channels are trying to distort.

This is a lot of work and often lacks resources, but Ukrainians should not miss the opportunity to win over those with whom we share common worldview values.

Budanov is out hunting: Russian airfields and oil depots are being buzzed

від Юрій Гончаренко July 27, 2024

The Defence Intelligence of Ukraine has conducted a series of successful operations against Russia’s strategic facilities and infrastructure. Notably, all operations took place within a day.

According to intelligence sources, in recent days, the GRU has carried out a number of sabotage and reconnaissance activities in Russia:

  1. The defeat of military aircraft:
    • Mi-28 and Ka-226 helicopters were damaged on the territory of the Mil and Kamov National Helicopter Center in Moscow Oblast.
    • An Mi-8 multipurpose helicopter is destroyed at the Kryazh airfield in Samara.
    • A TU-22M3 long-range supersonic bomber-missile carrier is damaged at the Olenya airfield in the Murmansk region.
  2. Attacks on military airfields:
    • The airfields in Engels (Saratov region), Dyagilevo (Ryazan region) and Olenya (Murmansk region) were struck.
  3. Cyberattack on the financial sector of the Russian Federation:
    • Online services of leading Russian banks, Internet providers, social networks and payment systems were affected.
    • ATMs were blocked, which led to problems with cash withdrawals.
    • Access to databases of Russian financial institutions was obtained.

These operations demonstrate a significant expansion of the DIU’s capabilities in conducting complex activities that include both physical damage to military facilities and cyber attacks on the enemy’s critical infrastructure. The actions of Ukrainian intelligence have a significant impact on the military and economic potential of the Russian Federation, creating significant
